ORIGIN

The making of maznik is a time-honoured tradition passed onto us by our ancestors, and we are privileged to be able to share this pastry with you.

Maznik is a crispy pastry stuffed with a range of delectable fillings, from cheese and spinach to meat and onion, that will really get your tastebuds going.

Hand stretched until it is paper thin, the dough is then rolled and coiled with all the yummy fillings inside and served with a glass of creamy buttermilk.

In the Balkan region, this pastry is traditionally prepared for the old new year and served on the evening on 13th of January to celebrate the feast of St. Basil the Great.

One of the customs for this celebration is for family to sit together and spin maznik embedded with a coin on the table, with good fortune bestowed on the member of the household who selects the piece which contains the coin.

We can’t wait to bring a bit of the Balkans to you.
